The 365 Films Challenge

Short and Sweet Overview: Watch 365 films in the year 2012.

What Is This Challenge?
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to spend the next year delving into the world of film by watching one film that you have never seen before per day.

How Do I Participate?
The extent of how you participate is totally up to you, however it is recommended that you post some form of a review, whether it be as simple as a star rating or as extensive as a critical film analysis. Some also do graphics along with their reviews.

When Do We Start?
Like most 365 challenges, the best day to start is January 1st so that you end on December 31st.

But Isn’t This A Leap Year? It Should Be 366.
Consider it a free day or a bonus film, I could care less.

What If I Can’t Watch A Film Each Day?
No one is monitoring how you reach 365 films, so if you fall behind or watch ahead a few movies, that is your choice.

How Am I Going To Find 365 Films To Watch?
I suggest signing up for iCheckMovies and start with their top movies lists. You’re bound to find something you haven’t seen before.

Day 28 – Favorite movie from your favorite director

Atonement (2007)

Ok, this was seriously such a hard decision. Let me begin by saying that I have two favorite directors. Joe Wright & Woody Allen. And while Woody Allen has done plenty of brilliant movies, and Joe Wright has only done a few - I think Joe’s few have might quite an impact. Every movie I have of his, I watch his commentaries, and they are quite inspiring. Every little detail he does to his movies - Atonement in particular - you can tell they are special in every way. Anything from a short shot to the way a person is positioned meant something to him. To this day I can watch Atonement and notice all the little things that make this movie so amazing. It has got to be one of the most visually appealing movies I have ever seen, and for me that’s what counts. I can’t account for the screenplay, because it was adapted from the book, but Joe’s interpretation is brilliant.

Day 27 – A movie that you wish you had seen in theaters

Moulin Rouge! (2001)

What I’d really like is Baz to get back in business with more movies like this and R+J. I can’t wait for the Great Gatsby, but I do wonder if it’ll be more like Australia and less theatrical. I kind of don’t care with it’s cast because it’ll be wonderful of course no matter what. Anyway, I never saw Moulin Rouge in theaters, but I really do wish I had. It would be so wonderful too especially because of the music. MR and R+J both have such amazing soundtracks I think I’d love to see them both in theaters again…back to back! Let’s make this happen :)

Day 26 – A movie that you love but everyone else hates

New York, I Love You (2009)

I seriously love this movie, and I love the trailer. Every time I hear 1901 I think (and smell) the city. Weird? Possibly. But I think this movie did a great job at portraying the diversity in the city, but what the hell do I know? I’ve only been there a couple of times. Anyway, I can’t understand why people didn’t find this movie as intriguing as I did. Even finding this trailer, and the comments on YouTube are terrible. Maybe they didn’t quite understand the concept of the storylines? I’ve seen Paris, Je T’Aime (2006), and knew what I was in for, and I absolutely loved it.

Day 24 – That one awesome movie idea that still hasn’t been done yet

A New Direction

It will happen!

Day 21 – Favorite action movie

Inception (2010)

I think it was a tie between this and The Matrix, but seeing as how I have already used Matrix as one of my challenges, I chose Inception. I remember the first time I saw this trailer getting goosebumps. I was never the action movie type since recently, and this movie had a huge influence (so obviously when I say recently I mean RECENTLY). These new waves of Christopher Nolan action films are getting to me, and that’s a fantastic thing! I think mixing these great actors who can actually act while holding a gun WHILE looking sexy has made a great impact on women these days ;) BUT in all truths, I absolutely love these films.

Day 20 – Favorite movie from your favorite actor/actress

Closer (2004)

Hands down favorite movie ever & favorite actress. Enough said.

Day 16 – A movie that you used to love but now hate

Twilight (2008)

Okay, here we go…So I used to love this thing called Twilight (you may have heard of it), but now I completely despise the whole fandom. After Twilight, I read the books, I loved the characters, I loved the actors…and now everything about it has changed. Watch New Moon and Eclipse and you know exactly what I mean. This movie was “supposed” to be an indie movie that not too many people saw, and a good film by Catherine Hardwicke. Now it’s some huge Blockbuster that each actor was definitely not meant for. You give those actors some money and big sets and huge budgets and look what they turn into. I can’t bare to watch them without laughing at how bad it is. I can surely speak on behalf of many people on here, and some may not admit it, but what it’s become is a completely overrated series that has become something it was never meant to be. Now it’s not to say I won’t go see Breaking Dawn because if I’ve read the book, I certainly will go watch the movies. Let’s just say I’m not on any Team Edward or Team Jacob anymore.

Day 15 – A character who you can relate to the most

Mad Men Cast (TV Series)

I’m just going to leave this picture here. This cast of independent women is all that I aspire to be (mostly Peggy because Betty is not so much a great mother lol). Not who I can relate to because frankly, I cannot think of one single character who I can relate to at the moment. I’m not so sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. All I know is that this show is amazing, and so is the amazing cast. I can’t wait for this show to start back up! :D

Day 14 – A movie that no one would expect you to love

The Matrix (1999)

I’m not exactly sure why it would surprise people that I loved The Matrix Trilogy so much, but for some reason it always does. A few semesters ago I chose to analyze and write a paper on this movie (very interesting by the way), and once I told people I had great interest in it, they were just caught off guard. That’s okay though, I like surprising people every once in awhile :)

Day 10 – Favorite Classic Movie

Breakfast At Tiffany’s (1961)

This may come to no surprise to some of you that this movie is a favorite. No matter how many classic movies I have seen, not one has topped Breakfast At Tiffany’s. Audrey will always be my favorite actress for her talent and charm, and I still believe that Holly Golightly is her most recognized character for a reason. A fun, loving movie in the beautiful NYC makes Breakfast at Tiffany’s what it is, and it made me who I am today. The greatest Muse of movies was an inspiration to me from the moment I saw it.

Day 08 – A movie that you’ve seen countless times

You’ve Got Mail (1998)

You see, it’s very ironic that I chose this movie as one I have seen a countless number of times. Because of the fact that I was going to choose this or Pride & Prejudice (2005). Both movies I have definitely seen way too many times, and that goes for many other movies. Some people can’t stand the thought of watching a movie more than just a few, but for me I could sit there and watch a movie over and over. You’ve Got Mail was definitely one of those movies, and still is. Just last year I remember watching it continuously. Anyway the ironic part about those two movies is that they are both tied together. Jane Austen’s story of first impressions, which by the way is the original name of Pride & Prejudice. The second greatest love story to R&J :)

Day 06 – Favorite made for TV movie

James Dean (TV 2001)

So I’m just going to leave this video instead of the trailer because look at James in this. He has come so far, and accomplished so much in just a few short years. I honestly love this movie, and I love him. Franco is truly James Dean, and I love them both.

Day 05 – Favorite love story in a movie

Romeo + Juliet (1996)

Debate with me all you want, but forever the greatest love story of all time.

Day 03 – A movie that makes you really happy

Enchanted (2007)

When I think about happy movies, I obviously think about Disney. I grew up around Disney World, and all I can remember is watching Disney movies as a kid. I think Enchanted, even though it came out recently, is probably one of my favorites. It has everything Disney mixed up in one movie, and they made a fantastic choice of doing so.
